Not this water thing again...

Are you getting enough?

We all know that water is important but have you ever really paid attention why?

Making up nearly 60% of our body, water plays many roles including:

  • Regulating body temperature

  • Lubricating our joints

  • Flushing out waste products

  • Carrying nutrients and oxygen to our cells

  • Dissolving minerals and nutrients to make them available to our body

  • Cushioning our organs and tissues

  • Maintaining electrolyte balance

That’s a pretty big list!

So what happens when you don’t drink enough? You get tired, maybe have a mild headache, bad mood, less attention span and you limit your brains ability to function.

How much water you should drink varies greatly person to person but one thing to note is when you’re feeling thirsty you’re waaaaaay behind the 8 ball. You need to continue drinking throughout the day to make sure you’re well hydrated.

Want to know another cool thing? Water helps to regulate hunger! Next time you’re hungry try drinking a glass of water first and see how you feel. Also a great way to get more is to take a drink of water in between bites of food at meal time. Not only will this slow your eating, but it may just help you eat less.

So what do you do if you don’t really like plain water or you just forget to drink it throughout the day? Try some of these tips from My Active Roots to increase your daily water consumption.

Happy Wednesday :)
